Dr. Zahid Hussain is from Bangladesh.
He was born in Bangladesh and completed his MBA at the University of Dhaka. He then worked for a long period at the World Bank’s Dhaka office, representing the World Bank in economic policy analysis and project support for Bangladesh.
Ms. Fahima Choudhury was appointed as an Independent Director to the board of BRAC Bank PLC. in April 2018. At present, she also serves as member of the Board Risk Management Committee and the Board Audit Committee.
Since end-2018, Ms. Choudhury also serves as a BRAC Bank Nominated Director on the boards of BRAC-EPL Investments Ltd. and BRAC-EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd.; and is currently the Acting Chair of both these companies. In the end of 2021, she was nominated by BRAC Bank as a Director onto the board of Bkash Ltd.
Ms. Choudhury is a management consultant and a marketing communications & advertising specialist with over 25 years of experience in various entrepreneurial and leadership roles across multiple firms. Due to her long involvement in the advertising business, she has had the opportunity to serve diverse range of local and international clients across a number of sectors and industries.
Ms. Choudhury started her career in Adcomm Limited (one of the oldest and most renowned advertising agencies in the country) rising to the position of Director, before moving on to establish her own integrated marketing communications agency called Marka. Later, Marka was acquired by Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide (part of the WPP Group), and Ms. Choudhury became the Managing Director (and shareholder) of Ogilvy & Mather Bangladesh. In the past she has also been a member of Ogilvy APAC regional council, as well as Assistant General Secretary in the Advertising Agencies Association of Bangladesh. Ms. Choudhury left the advertising industry in 2020 in order to focus on her consultancy business.
Aside from this, Ms. Choudhury is also a Director of Adcomm Holdings which has business involvements in various other industries (including hospitality, media and IT).
Ms. Choudhury did her B.Sc. (Hons.) Management and M.Sc. Management from the London School of Economics & Political Science in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Saiful Islam is the Director of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited. In mid-2000 Saiful Islam along with his partners set up Equity Partners Limited and Equity Partners Securities Limited, the predecessor companies of BRAC EPL Investments and BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited. He managed both companies for 9 years until the companies entered into joint venture partnership with BRAC Bank PLC. in mid of 2009.
Prior to set up Equity Partners Mr. Saiful Islam worked as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President at Union Capital Limited, a brokerage house, merchant bank and leasing company in Bangladesh. Prior to UCL, Mr. Islam was Head of Operations of Peregrine Capital Limited (PCL), Bangladesh Branch Office, Manager, Securities Operations, of PCL and Manager, Settlements and Client Services, Custodial Services of Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh.
Apart from the professional activities with BRAC EPL Mr. Islam is very much involved with the capital market development activities. He was the Vice Chairman of South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE), held the office of Senior Vice President of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for two consecutive terms and served as Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange for more than five years. He seats on the Board of Canada Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CANCHAM) as a Director. Mr. Islam is a Member of American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AMCHAM), Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB).
Mr. Islam has nearly 25 years of global and local experience in key business and support roles. Mr. Islam was born in Comilla, Bangladesh and he had done his Bachelor Degree of Commerce (B. Com) in Management from Dhaka University. Mr. Islam holds a highly recognized MBA degree from Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, USA.
Mr. Selim R. F. Hussain was appointed as a Director of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited in November 2015. Mr. Selim joined BRAC Bank PLC. as the Managing Director & CEO on November 8, 2015. Mr. Hussain is a career banker and an immediate past CEO & Managing Director of IDLC Finance Limited who is widely recognized and highly acclaimed across the financial sector for being the architect of IDLC Finance’s meteoric rise over the past six years. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2012 of IDLC Finance’s two subsidiaries – IDLC Investments Limited and IDLC Securities Limited.
Mr. Hussain has an Honours degree in Accounting from Dhaka University and an MBA (Major in Finance) from the Institute of Business Administration, also from Dhaka University. He worked in various roles with the two largest multi-national banks in Bangladesh, ANZ Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, for twenty four years, before moving to the IDLC Group in 2010. He has resided and worked in India and Australia for significant periods of his career and, prior to taking over the helm at IDLC Finance Limited, was the Head of Finance & Strategy for Standard Chartered Bank’s Consumer Banking Division in Mumbai, India. Mr. Hussain was also CFO for Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh, from 2002 to 2007. Hussain was also a Director at the Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh (CRAB) and the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Leasing & Finance Co Association (BLFCA) since 2012.
Hussain is married with one son and aside from enjoying reading and traveling, he is a keen cricket and football enthusiast.
Tamara Hasan Abed is the managing director of BRAC Enterprises. She has been heading BRAC’s ten social enterprises including Aarong, BRAC Dairy, BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprise as a senior director since 2014.
Ms Abed brings with her extensive experience in investment banking, entrepreneurship and social enterprise, with a career spanning over two decades. Leading by example, she has carved a respectful position as a senior leader in the traditionally male-dominated industries and has inspired more women to come forward and make a mark. She is passionate about driving value-based business models, operating at the intersection of social good, sustainable business and inclusive growth.
Ms Abed began her career in the corporate finance sector in 1995, at Peregrine Capital Ltd, a Hong Kong-based investment bank in Dhaka. Later she moved to New York and worked for Goldman Sachs in Mergers and Strategic Advisory.
She joined Aarong as the general manager for design and product development in 2002. She later took charge of its export division and established the marketing department. In 2005, she was promoted as the head of Aarong and Ayesha Abed Foundation. Under her leadership, Aarong has gone from strength to strength, celebrating 40 years in 2019 as Bangladesh’s most popular lifestyle retail chain. She has been instrumental in driving the expansion of Aarong to 21 national outlets, multiple brands, e-commerce and digital platforms.
In 2006, Ms Abed was given the charge of BRAC Dairy, and since then has built a strong team to take the dairy business in Bangladesh to new heights. BRAC Dairy is currently the third highest dairy processor in Bangladesh with a diverse portfolio of products. Ms Abed served on the board of directors of BRAC Bank for eight years from 2008 to 2016. She currently serves on the boards of IPDC Finance, BRAC EPL Investments, BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage and edotco Bangladesh. Ms Abed was elected as Chairperson of the BRAC University Board of Trustees in 2019, of which she was a member from January 2011. She chaired the board finance committee from December 2016 to June 2019, and was a member of the BU Syndicate from March 2011 to June 2019. She currently chairs the Board of BRAC Services Limited and is the executive trustee of Ayesha Abed Foundation. She has chaired the Board of BRAC Tea Estates since August 2019.
Ms Abed has represented Bangladesh globally and was honoured by the World Economic Forum as a ‘Young Global Leader’ in 2010. She also represented Bangladesh during the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington in 2010. Ms Abed is an Asia 21 Young Leader. She received the Outstanding Women Leadership Award from the World Women Leadership Congress in 2014. Ms Abed has an MBA in Finance from Columbia University. She completed her BSC in Economics from the London School of Economics. In 2014, Ms Abed attended an executive course for Young Global Leaders on Transformational Leadership at Oxford University’s Said Business School.
Mr. Mohammod Masud Rana joined as a member of the Board of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited as a shareholder director. Mr. Mohammod Masud Rana is currently working at BRAC Bank PLC. as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He has more than 23 years of diversified experience of public accounting, textile, pharmaceutical and banking. He started his career with SF Ahmed & Co. before joining BEXIMCO Garments & Textile Division in 2001 as Finance Manager. In 2004, he moved to Sanofi-Aventis as Financial Controller. He started his stint with Standard Chartered Bangladesh (SCB) in 2006 as the Financial Controller. During his tenure with SCB, he eventually went on to assume the role of CFO in 2016. Prior to joining BRAC Bank, Mr. Masud was serving the role of CFO in Dhaka Bank Limited. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of ICAB and completed his Honors and Masters in Accounting from University of Dhaka.
Dr. Zahid Hussain has been appointed as Nominated Director to the Board of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited and he is an independent director to the Board of BRAC Bank PLC. Dr. Hussain served as a Consultant in the World Bank Dhaka Office from July 01, 2019, to June 30, 2020. He has also served as a Lead Economist in the World Bank Dhaka Office from May 01, 1995, to June 30, 2019. During this time, he was a key member of the Bank’s macro, trade, and investment global practice that provides budgetary support (development support credit) and technical assistance to the government, and prepares growth diagnostics, public expenditure reviews, annual macroeconomic updates, and policy notes on macroeconomic management and structural issues. Dr. Hussain was also engaged as a Lecturer at Boston University, the University of Massachusetts Boston and Framingham State College, Framingham, Massachusetts in the USA during 1987-1992.
He got a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University, USA, in 1992. He completed his Master of Arts in Political Economy from Boston University, USA, in 1987. He earned his MBA from the Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University, Bangladesh, in 1979. Dr. Hussain has published numerous journals and articles in Management, Business, and Economics.
Mr. Ahsanur Rahman is the Chief Executive Officer of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited. He has 13 years of experience in Bangladesh Capital Market. Prior to assuming the role as CEO, he was the Head of International Trade & Sales and Head of Institutional Business Unit of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited. Before joining BRAC EPL in November 2009, Mr. Rahman worked as a trader at AM Securities and gained experience in operations and settlement at Union Capital Ltd. In his 13 years of experience in Bangladesh Capital Market he developed and maintained relationship with international brokers and fund managers that helped bring in Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) in Bangladesh Capital Market.
Mr. Rahman graduated Summa Cum Laude from East West University in Finance. During his career, he attended numerous trainings, seminars and workshops on different aspects of stock broking and investment banking held in the country and abroad.
